The jury chose the film SALTA (VEN 2016, 13 min) by Marianne Amelinckx as the winner of the Short Film Award.
Jury:
Piet Baumgartner, filmmaker
Christina von Ledebur, SRF, acquisition of film and serials
Sebastian Ledesma, actor
Senta van de Weeterin, film curator and film journalist
Salta skilfully uses various ways of filming in order to convey the story. The intelligent dramaturgy, the cleverly chosen, notably filmic setting, and the unobtrusive but effective camera make the film a gem. The film is extremely memorable, even without superficial effects or emotional close up scenes. The kiss, the opening image with the palm trees reflecting in the water, or the swimming contest, where only the swimming girl friend seems to exist: all these scenes make a great impression.
ZKB donated two Audience Awards, one for Best Feature Film, which was won by «In Between», an Israeli-French coproduction by Palestinian director Maysaloun Hamoud, and one for Best Documentary, won by the Dutch-Belgian production «Strike a Pose». This film, directed by Ester Gould and Reijer Zwaan, features the protagonists of the nineties classic «In Bed with Madonna» twenty-five years later.
This year's Festival Award for merits in lesbian and gay filmmaking goes to Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, who will be receiving the award in person. «The Celluloid Closet» (USA 1995) was the first film to be seen at Pink Apple back in 1998. In cooperation with Filmpodium Zurich, we will be showing a selection of both authors' and oscar winners' filmwork.
We've recycled our old festival canvases and have had them be redesigned as different types of bags – they are available for sale at Arthouse Movie box offices.
This way Pink Apple can accompany you all year long while you let the anniversary edition linger.
