Panel discussion
What does «coming out» mean? Is it something that only happens once? Or is it a repetitive process? A matter of consciousness? Of feelings? Or does it happen by speaking the tiny words «lesbian» or «gay»?
In an informal discussion moderated by Natalie Eberle, the topics «inner coming out», «outer coming out» and «going public» will be highlighted. What is a coming out like today, how was it years ago, and what about outing?
Sibylle Dorn, co-editor of «Lesben und Coming Out» (Zürich 1993), is familiar with coming out and going public from her own experiences in the nineties.
Karen-Susan Fessel, freelance author since 1993, Is co-editor of «Out!», a lexicon about lesbians, gays and bisexuals, that started in 1997 with 500 names and has reached 800 names in its fifth edition in 2004. (see also: Karen-Susan Fessel, «Bilder von ihr»).
Lisa Bachmann, freelance theatre woman since 1991. Productions include «Setz dich nicht ins Lesbennest», «Maid in Switzerland – ein Abend voller Lesbenfreude» or «kreuz und queer». She also co-founded the Luzerner Kultur-Forum.
Patrick Weber, programme director of du-bist-du, earned a master in social work, is an expert in coming out of adolescents, and attitudes and behaviours of heterosexual youths towards gays.
